With Scott to the Pole @ Aberdeen Maratime Museum!

With Scott to the Pole is currently on show at Aberdeen's Maritime Museum, a wonderful place at the best of times but getting a chance to see large format pictures from Herbert Ponting's original prints is amazing. I picked up an old book about Scott's last failed expedition, seeing the photograph of his tent and reading about what the men found inside was both heart warming and chilling. These photographs show men who were keen for knowledge and scientific exploration. One of the best pictures is a before and after, 3 of the men set out to collect penguin eggs, thinking they would herald a major scientific breakthrough. Their 60km round trip took 6 weeks and the state they returned in, well go see for yourself! With Scott to the Pole runs until the 8th January and entry is free!

Deen Scene - Good Stuff #20!

So it's another art & culture round up and fear not, there'll be no mention of creative funding opportunities here! Instead I like to focus on things that have given me a boost, whether its individual artists, projects or musical mixtapes. I've always been interested on what's happening here in Aberdeen but also what's happening further afield and with friends scattered across the globe I'm inundated with photos and videos of what they're up to and its nice to share some of their content and to build up better connections. Of course you can't overlook the Granite City and all that it has to offer, especially for the avid tiktoker. Yes, I've taken the plunge and have been using the app for a few weeks now and I have to say its fun. ElphOne at Go-Reborn!

An Edinburgh local, Elph is a graffiti artist of international stature. Having first seen his work on a gift card in Schuch I instantly liked his style and his characters. So I was pretty pleased to hear he would be doing some live painting at Go-Reborn when we were down. Almost as soon as we walked in I noticed the amazing canvas being worke don at the back and sure enough it was the man himself. After a quick chat we left him to it and started to set up for the night time but made sure to keep an eye on his progress throughout the night. After finally calling it a night at 2am we headed off for a night on the town which ended in Fingers Bar, a true gem in Edinburgh's crown. The music was awfull, the punters were ming but Elph kept our spirits up with his stories and his banter! Degree Show 2018 at Grays School of Art!

After all my recommendations about seeing the show more than once and taking it in properly I only managed a quick whizz around on Sunday, the last day of the show. Sadly a lot of work had already been moved either due to scheduling conflicts (lots of design and fashion work is shipped to London for the new designers showcase) while others had simply decided it was time to abandon ship and get their work home. After 3 years and probably one of the busiest weeks of their lives I can't say I blame them. But there was still plenty of visual delights to take in and some really great work on show. Starting in the Com Design space I enjoyed a lot of the vinyl related work with some great entries for the Super 7 competition. Kelsey Macdonald and Siobhan Keegans work was on point and the Aberdeen branding really drew me in also.
