The Artwork of Jim Ewen!

Jim is an old studio friend whom I first met and insulted at Kilau when I made one of my terrible jokes, thankfully he wasn't too bothered and a solid friendship has grown since. I've always loved Jim's paintings and collage pieces and hes finally got around to setting up a facebook page and an on the line shop! Jim has been beavering away since his last solo show at Kilau last year and these are some of the fruits of his labour with more paintings and collage works in the pipeline so keep an eye on things via Jim's facebook page!

Deen Scene - Good Stuff #20!

So it's another art & culture round up and fear not, there'll be no mention of creative funding opportunities here! Instead I like to focus on things that have given me a boost, whether its individual artists, projects or musical mixtapes. I've always been interested on what's happening here in Aberdeen but also what's happening further afield and with friends scattered across the globe I'm inundated with photos and videos of what they're up to and its nice to share some of their content and to build up better connections. Of course you can't overlook the Granite City and all that it has to offer, especially for the avid tiktoker. Yes, I've taken the plunge and have been using the app for a few weeks now and I have to say its fun. ElphOne at Go-Reborn!

An Edinburgh local, Elph is a graffiti artist of international stature. Having first seen his work on a gift card in Schuch I instantly liked his style and his characters. So I was pretty pleased to hear he would be doing some live painting at Go-Reborn when we were down. Almost as soon as we walked in I noticed the amazing canvas being worke don at the back and sure enough it was the man himself. After a quick chat we left him to it and started to set up for the night time but made sure to keep an eye on his progress throughout the night. After finally calling it a night at 2am we headed off for a night on the town which ended in Fingers Bar, a true gem in Edinburgh's crown. The music was awfull, the punters were ming but Elph kept our spirits up with his stories and his banter! Pillow Talk: Working Space by VAU (Visual Artist Unit) at The Blue Lamp!

VAU or Visual Artist Unit is a loose collective of artists, base din Glasgow but with members scattered all across the country. Their mission is a simple one "Arts Organisation supporting emerging artists based in Scotland and improving public engagement and access to contemporary are for the wider community". A big part of their public engagement is the Pillow Talk lectures, where artists are invited to speak about certain aspects of their work, process, materials, background etc. The latest Pillow Talk took place in Aberdeen at The Blue Lamp and featured talks from Kate Downie, Michael Agnew, Sarah Gallie and Alexander "Twig" Champion. The focus of the talks looked at each artists background and the importance of working space. Kate had some great stories about portacabins by the Fourth estuary  and spoke about some of her experiences in China while Michael spoke about his experiences at Grays School of Art and the rich history of the schools current building. ...
