Mood of Collapse & Kekun Studio are delighted to present MoC x 10 (2008 - 2018). Founded in 2008, the Mood of Collapse blog aimed to document and expose the exciting creative arts scene developing in Aberdeen at the time and to disspell the myth that 'nothing ever happens in Aberdeen' whilst trying to create connections between artists, organisations and the general public. Ten years on I'm still as inspired and busy as ever as Aberdeen enjoys some much needed focus on the arts thanks to initiatives like Look Again Festival and Painted Doors Aberdeen but it didn't happen overnight.
With over ten years of documenting shows and artists, the MoC x 10 show collects numerous photographs, exhibition flyers and short films that go some way to telling the story of contemporary art and the emerging street art scene's in Aberdeen from the Mood blog perspective. From the early public interventions of Craig Barrowman to the arrival of the international Nuart Festival, I hope to provide some useful dot joining that highlights the incredible hard work and dedication of Aberdeen's creatives who've made it happen and also kept me inspired for over a decade! From giant eyeballs being rolled down Union Street to massive chess sets in Rubislaw Gardens, there’s some interesting stories to be shared. And if you've ever wondered what Mood of Collapse means then now is your chance to find out!
Along with an extensive photo archive display we've curated a special exhibition featuring artwork from artists featured on the blog including Mary Butterworth, Caitlin Hynes, Neil Corral, Craig Barrowman, David Iain Brown, KMG Yeah, Laura McGlinchey, Dax Osbourne and many more! We'll be running a series of workshops, artist talks and short film screenings aswell with dates and times to follow. All events are free but spaces will be limited so RSVP is essential.
MoC x 10 Opens on Saturday 2nd February at Kekun Studio in Rosemount. Open from 11am - 4pm daily and runs til Saturday 9th February.
