There's still a few weeks to catch the new show from Jetpack Dinosaur organised by Second Home Aberdeen at the wonderful Parx Café. 'Yamadori' see's Jetpack continue to experiment with his ideas and concepts as he looks at mythical beasts, bonsai trees and illustrious red dot!
You can see the influence of the 'Floating World' from Japan, even the title 'Yamadori' is a Japanese term that refers to the collecting of trees from the forrest, a nod to his bonsai drawings. The show features a host of new works including some new riso print editions created at Peacock Visual Arts, original ink drawings and some special paintings on old cymbals, a nod to Jetpacks other passion playing the drums. With previous shows at Foodstory and Kekun Studio, its interesting to note the progression of ideas, a process which Jetpack often shares with sketch book images and previews via his Instagram feed. Although his web shop is down (get it sorted) you can pick up originals and a load of affordable prints at Parx with A3 prints for just £15.
Also Jetpack will be hosting a special 'sketching' workshops organised by Second Home Aberdeen on the 27th. He'll be speaking about where he gets his inspiration from and demonstrating how he creates his distinctive botanical drawings in the company of his exhibition. His work fits so nicely into the Parx space which has time and again proved itself a great venue for exhibitions and with Second Home Aberdeen taking on curation duties we can expect a year of fantastic exhibitions and events. Although not normally open on weekends you can find out about special pop up events via their facebook page with Saturday brunch club happening at the start of each month with regular opening times Monday to Friday.
