So after a few misfires I finally got episode 2 done and dusted! I defo prefer to be on the other side of the camera or when I don't have to speak but its good to push out of my comfort zone a little and its making me do a bit more research into some of the albums and records that I own. Fun facts like Dave Brubeck's 'Time Out' was released in 1959 and is titled after the unusual time signatures the band play on each track, pushing the beat and rhythm in new directions, especially for the late 1950s. Episode 2 also features a few tracks that made me think about friends and family who are no longer here and how sometimes music can be triggering for sad emotions. I just want to highlight this as I spent years making myself sad. Maybe I needed it at that time but I'm ok with not listening to certain songs as I know the impact they will have. That said there's also a great power in music to remind us of good memories and of people we miss in a good way and certainly the last record does that. Certainly I was suprised when my parents handed me a pile of records from my grans loft and to find the gay disco hit 'I Was Born This Way' amongst them. It's great to think about singers like Carl Bean being brave enough to stand up and make their voices heard, fighting the homophobia which still appears all to rampant today. It's an incredibly up beat song and one that reminds me of my gran but also has me dancing and singing along wherever I play it. Its all about the love and celebrating it in whatever form it takes! I've really enjoyed finding a new outlet for my vinyl collecting both through live streaming DJ sets and producing these videos.
