Brass & Copper Cowfee, Edinburgh!

andOne of my best friends has set up shop with his sister in the west end of Edinburgh. You can find Brass & Copper at 18 William Street, 5 minutes from Princess Street! They do some pretty special coffee, some of the best in Edinburgh as well as a fine selection of home made soups, sandwiches and Tara's amazing home bakes! They are also exhibiting art works from a selection of local artists and photographers, the latest work on show is from Heather Malsen. Its a nice place to go and escape the bustle of Princess Street and I promise you won't find nicer people than Joel & Tara so pop in if your down that way and say hi from Jonty!

DO IT! # 1 at Cellar 35!

DJ Riddim & Jonny B with Visuals by MOC (Me). The night is about getting down to some good tunes, meeting new people and getting some free shit. For the first night (07.11.08) we had Alistair Allan drop in a few of his new Entrails zines. This things have been made with love, ill be adding pics and details of them soon. Re-framing the Collection and Uncovering Hidden Stories!

We took some time to visit and find out more about the 'Reframing the Collection' mini exhibition at Aberdeen Art Gallery and its worthy of your attention. The show is the result of work being undertaken across the museum sector to address problematic artworks, some of which are on show in their public gallery spaces but with many squirreled away, their problematic nature keeping them out of sight and often out of mind. These problematic works can range in severity from an outdated and now offensive titles like the 'Negress' or 'head of a Negro' and of course imagery and iconography relating to the British slave trade.  Slavery became a buzz word when looking at racial equality issues highlighted by the BLM movement a few years back, the reductive counter arguement often called for people to 'get over it, it's history' while failing to actually listen to the stories from those who's families had been affected by the trade, regardless of the timel...

All Work & Some Play!

Its was a busy weekend for Peacock Visual Arts with not one but two new shows opening. In the main gallery you can see North West by Katri Walker . A nice installation and short film exploring Scotland's connection to the wild west and the visual culture surrounding it. There's a very nice installation piece along the centre of the space with changing back drops which will instantly transport you to the land of cowboys & indians! The opening also featured some real Scottish cowboys who put on a real show for everyone which ended in a shoot out! Just another day at the office for some! Through in the main building you can see WORK , the BA Hons Printmaking students pre degree show show! I knew quite a few of the artists exhibiting in the show but was still blown away by the quality of the work, I usually find these kind of shows a bit underwhelming but I was really impressed by the breadth and depth of the work.
