365 Days of Art by Craig Duncan!

As I try to build myself up for some new creative adventures its nice to look at a project from last year by Craig Duncan aka ArtShed. Where I struggle to fulfil my creative intentions (whether because of work or time, that's ok btw) I found myself getting hyped on these daily drawings and wanted to capture a few of my favourites.

I met Craig a few years ago at his degree show, suprised to see the stressed out chef I'd worked under in the early 2000s was now a laid back art school graduate. And his work was arresting and captivating. The use of colour and shape really spoke to me and he provided one of the highlights for the 2016 degree show. Craig had a successful solo show 'Surface Crush' at the now defunct Seventeen space in 2017 which you can read about here. 2018 provided the perfect opportunity for some self directed creativity and the results are 365 individual drawings, sketches and concepts which he shared via his instagram account. The drawings provided a gateway into the art shed where Craig beavers away when not working and gave us a nice glimpse into his creative world. Little side notes and snippets of information accompanied the images, many with unique titles like 'Cricle Jazz' or 'Sound Drops'. Some titles seemed to fit the pieces while other seemed more a reflection on how the artist might have been feeling on that particular day, a visual diary of sorts.

Now well into 2019 you'll see a bit more life on Craigs instagram and towards the end of the year his black and white sketches slowly gave way to a full on colour assault, giving a fuller picture of what the art shed is about. Check out a few highlights from the first 187 days below and be sure to check out Craig's work here.
