Secret (Not so Secret) Dweller / Katerwaul Gig at Project Slogan!

A secret gig but I don't think it was much of a secret. Twol very highly regarded Aberdonian bands, Dweller were up first with their thrashy, high low mix of emo hardcore? I don't really know why you need to pigeonhole bands or come up with some kind of witty statement to describe them but these boys like to speed it up and slow it down akin to Sonic Youth or even Slint but with some intense vocals. Whether on the main stage or in your front room I think these boys will give you the same show, 100% in your face! And Tom's guitar antics gave me a good laugh, I didn't realise the wee man could rock out like that! Katerwaul were the main act of the night, getting some last minute practice in before their big support slot with The Unwinding Hours ! I'd seen Tim's old band a few time's but this was my first Katerwaul experience. 'Sound in Print' by VAVA Records!

Sound in Print is the brainchild of DJ A La Fu. Teaming up musicians and producers from his VaVa Records roster with a selection of hand picked artists the project is a perfect example of worlds colliding. Art x Music / Music x Print = Sound in Print! The first Sound in Print release comes from A La Fu and long time collaborator Remi Rough . "I'll Drive You Pray" is an interesting listen with a darker soundscape made up from many layers, the opposite of the E.P.s artwork which features some fine line and abstract work by Rough. You can check out lead track " Boom for Real " on the VaVa youtube channel along with a special edit of " No Fun in Funding " which takes on a dreamier quality when paired up with the visuals of Might Mention. Sound in Print is a multifaceted approach to not just music but art. Degree Show 2018 at Grays School of Art!

After all my recommendations about seeing the show more than once and taking it in properly I only managed a quick whizz around on Sunday, the last day of the show. Sadly a lot of work had already been moved either due to scheduling conflicts (lots of design and fashion work is shipped to London for the new designers showcase) while others had simply decided it was time to abandon ship and get their work home. After 3 years and probably one of the busiest weeks of their lives I can't say I blame them. But there was still plenty of visual delights to take in and some really great work on show. Starting in the Com Design space I enjoyed a lot of the vinyl related work with some great entries for the Super 7 competition. Kelsey Macdonald and Siobhan Keegans work was on point and the Aberdeen branding really drew me in also. Through in the old sculpture hall I just missed the spider table (check it here ) but I enjoyed my friend Jake Shepards show, a mix of steel and concrete, bla...
